FBAX: Freightos’ Amazon FBA Freight Pricing Index

Plan your next FBA shipment with our weekly index of freight shipping prices directly to fulfillment centers across the USA.

Planning international freight for e-commerce is hard. And in many cases, it can make the difference between profitability or losses.

Of the over 10,000 small businesses that use Freightos.com to compare, book, and manage freight, many are e-commerce sellers shipping directly to fulfillment centers, Fulfilled By Amazon (FBA) or otherwise.

Depending on the product, freight can account for a full 10% of the total cost of goods sold. But while product costs and Amazon fees are pretty transparent, freight costs fluctuate and take a long time to get.

This can make it hard for e-commerce sellers to find transparent and accurate cost estimates.

We can help.

Amazon FBA Pricing

With data from thousands of weekly pricing points from freight forwarders, we’ve developed a weekly index of freight prices including for Less than Container Load (LCL), Full Container Load (FCL), and air cargo, from major export cities in southeast Asia to the most popular Amazon fulfillment centers in the US.

How does the FBA Index (FBAX) help?

The FBA Index (FBAX) analyzes real-time pricing data on China to US FBA warehouse shipping costs, giving FBA sellers clear expectations of pricing trends.

For e-commerce sellers, this can help:

  • Deliver insight into timing international imports, including whether prices are particularly high or low
  • Gain visibility into the differences between various shipping modes to compare shipping urgency with actual shipping costs
  • Provide a rule-of-thumb cost estimate when pricing out freight costs for new products

How does the FBAX work?

The FBAX  is the only door-to-door freight index for Amazon shipping based on actual data from live freight prices — much like the Freightos Baltic Index, our daily container freight index.

The index is updated once a week based on an analysis of thousands of data points from multiple logistics providers offering live quotes on the Freightos.com marketplace for door-to-door shipments.

Prices listed include all costs for LCL and FCL ocean shipments from four major origin cities in China to the eight most-frequently selected Amazon FBA warehouses across the US, and air cargo rates.

*FBA handling fees for door-to-door air are not included.

Rates per mode are expressed as:

  • Air: $/250kg shipment
  • LCL: $ / Cubic meter
  • FCL: $ / 40′ container (FEU)

The FBAX tracks freight price data from the following Chinese ports:

  • Guangzhou
  • Ningbo
  • Shanghai
  • Shenzhen

Based on Freightos.com order volume, the FBAX tracks freight pricing to following destination cities in the US:

  • Charlotte, NC
  • Dallas, TX
  • Joliet, IL
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Moreno Valley, CA
  • San Bernardino, CA
  • Stockton, CA

Put your best freight forward with valuable, real time pricing data from the FBAX – the freight pricing index for e-commerce sellers.
